Hi! We are the Dreaming Dogs. Our dogs taught us how to live so we show them how to dream.
A pack is a group of individuals connected by affective laces, friendship, and respect. All of them help and protect each other, and work together for the well being of everyone. Each one develops its own function but seeks the same goal.
We work with dedication and effort, motivated and truly committed with our job because we do it with love and affection.
Valuing the process, taking care of each detail, that’s how we care about every little thing no one else sees. Yes, it’s inevitable, we’re perfectionists. We learn with our mistakes and attempts and we make adjustments and adaptations as they are needed. We have fun with all the discoveries and thrill with every achievement. Always seeking excellence in our job.
Everything we do has a little bit of our soul on it, with a trace of our personality and the optimistic way we see the world. We believe that a better place is not a utopia, it’s a consequence of great ideas and conscious decisions. It’s also a natural result of small anonymous actions which are built in balance, coherence, integrity, and respect of everything that surrounds us.
We worry about the planet and its inhabitants (all of them), so this is why we try to find more ecological production alternatives, grounded in ethics, conscious consumption, and in harmony with the environment. All our products are thought and developed based on this perspective. We value local raw materials, honest partnerships, and whenever possible, we use recycled and recyclable materials without compromising the quality of our products.
We love to get our hands dirty, we’re always seeking better solutions and we make of our work the greatest inspiration of our lives.
How the pack was born
Just like other good ideas, the Dreaming Dogs also was born small and modest… From the need of good and accessible tools to teach calligraphy to students, a professor proposed them the confection of artisanal ruling pens using alternative and recycled materials. The result of this exercise was so good that he found interesting to share this experience with his colleagues through social media. The receptivity and the enthusiasm for the tools were surprising. In just a few days, the tutorial received thousands of views and shares, indicating the interest and necessity of different tools for expressive calligraphy.
The Dreaming Dogs project was born from the dream and the necessity to built new, innovative and original products that respect the environment and seek to offer to the professional calligraphers, artists, and illustrators expressive tools with high quality and performance.
It was two years of a lot of research, testing prototypes, developing and improving the new ruling pens’ format. From this process resulted the original and exclusive tips’ design and the ideal configuration of the pens that was presented to the public at DiaTipo SP 2015.
In February 2016, the Dreaming Dogs project was officially launched as a crowdfunding project on the Catarse platform. With a big national repercussion and an intense involvement of all the calligraphic Brazilian community, it didn’t take long to be completely funded. The initial pledge was exceeded by the fourth day of launch, and by the end of two months of the campaign, with worldwide support, the project was financed with 347% of its goal.
Those were intense months of work, dedication, and learning. We received from friends and strangers, from nearby and other countries, a lot of affection, encouragement, and gratitude. We are a lot alike: they share our dreams, love calligraphy and can’t live without their pets.
This experience took us to many unknown paths. Brought us new friends, a lot of ideas, countless business possibilities, and prepared us to brand new challenges. We continue making ruling pens, just not as a project, but as a proudly Brazilian company named Dreaming Dogs.
